October
Saturday, October 6th:
1. Lennon Center "Walk for Life" taking place at Ford Field in Dearborn - contact Youth Ministry Office for pledge forms

2. Sacred Heart Parish monthly Capuchin Warehouse visit. Meet in the Parking Lot by 9AM to carpool

3. Youth Ministry "Applefest" Preparation: It's time to start working with apples for our "Applefest" fundraiser
later in October. (Parish)
NEW! Saturday, October 13th: Capuchin Earthworks Garden (Mt. Elliott and Meldrum by the soup kitchen) is
planning a honey extraction (Wider Community/Direct) 9am to 7pm We'll need a few teams of volunteers to help us
out throughout the day. If you're interested, please contact Shane at (313) 579-2100 extention 204 for more info.
The extraction will take place at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen located at 1264 Meldrum, Detroit, MI 48207.
Saturday, Oct. 20th: Mt. Kelly Cemetery Rake-Off from 9:30 to 12 noon. (Parish)
Meet at Mt. Kelly Cemetery. Bring work gloves and leaf rakes (or even leaf blowers) if you have them.
Saturday, Oct. 27th: NATIONAL MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY (Wider Community/Direct) ·
We begin by serving the homeless with P.B.J. Outreach downtown. Meet at 7:30 a.m. in parking lot. They love sweets
so you can bring bagged cookies or candy to distribute as well. Then we'll head over to Gleaners Food Bank to help
pack food bags or boxes or whatever is needed.
Sunday, Oct. 28th - Halloween Trunk & Treat/Craft Party/Haunted Forest at Fr. Patrick O'Kelley Knights of Columbus
(Parish & Wider Community) We need middle schoolers & high school teens to dress up to help pass out
candy to children, to help with the making of crafts/to help pass out candy in the Haunted Forest/even distributing
treats from car trunks as well. Please contact Julie if you wish to help with this event.
November

Meet in the Parking Lot by 9AM to carpool. This always takes place on the 1st Saturday of the month.
Thursday, November 15, 2012 @ 6:00 pm: (Wider Community/Direct) Candlelight Vigil at Covenant House Chapel
2959 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd Detroit, MI 48208 (NE corner I-96 and MLK)
We invite you to join us as we light candles of hope and pray for the young people who still call the streets “home” so
that they can find peace and safety someday. Our kids will be sharing their stories, and you can also tour our
facility. These young people have been discarded and forgotten. They believe they don’t matter and that no one cares.
Please prove them wrong. We will be donating homemade scarves from our KNIT WIT sessions last year that we will
be taking along with fleeced scarves and blankets made by our youth. If you wish to make a fringed fleece blanket to
donate, that would be great! Just drop it off to us before Nov. 15th. (see attachment below)
Saturday, Nov. 17th: Mt. Kelly Cemetery Rake-Off from 9:30 to 12 noon. (Parish) Meet at Mt. Kelly Cemetery. Bring work
gloves and leaf rakes (or even leaf blowers) if you have them. Cleanup what’s fallen since October.
Saturday, Nov. 17th: St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Drive - youth/teens/young adults are asked to help man the truck in
Sacred Heart parking lot from 12:00 to 3:30 p.m. accepting clothing donations that are dropped off.
Sunday, Nov. 18th 2:30-4:30: SHS Pancake Breakfast on 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. sponsored by SHS PTO Youth help is especially
needed with serving beverages, restocking, and table cleanup.
Sunday, Nov. 18th 2:30-4:30: Evergreen Wreath Decorating with pine cones and red ribbons for some 200 wreaths that are
sold.
Thanksgiving Day, 7AM to 11:30 AM: Manna House Thanksgiving Meals to the Homeless. This is open to all ages—adults,
young adults, teens, youth, and including families. We gather at the parking lot and carpool to Manna House. Help them
serve complete Thanksgiving meals to the homeless. We finish at 11 am and return to the parish.
Saturday, Nov. 24th: PBJ Outreach to the Homeless P.B.J. Outreach at Martin Luther King and Third—this is outdoors so
be sure to dress for the weather! Meet at 7:30 a.m. in parking lot. They love sweets so you can bring bagged cookies or
candy to distribute as well. We also distribute clothing to those in need depart 7:30 a.m., Arriving back at parish round
9:45 a.m. This is a monthly event.
